And if so what did you go on to do? I'm looking at become a freelance translator but after a fairly decent stint just teaching up to Ks4 I'm not sure my language skills are up to scratch these days.

I left at Christmas, I was a newspaper journalist before becoming a teacher, I have got a pr job at a hospital.

So much nicer than being in the classroom! I'm lucky that I had previous different skills - tho jobs in my field are few sadly. I miss MFL tho. Don't think translation would be an easy one, depends how much orphans a steady income you need.

I know quite a few who have switched to teaching languages at primary level. Lots of them work in different schools. Could that be an option or are you desperate to leave altogether?

I'm sure you could reinvigorate your language skills but there's not much money in translation unless you have a sought after specialist area or a more unusual language combination.

I know ex MFL teachers who work freelance in primaries, childminding, tutoring, one who works in a museum.
I'm tempted to get out.
