Returning very part time?

I taught for three years and then another year in a related job in charity sector before taking a break to have my children (3.5 years ago). They are still very part a little (young toddlers) but I fear if I don’t get back into education too much time will have passed.

I’m in an area with a lot of schools in difficulties and there seems to be a high staff turnover.

I’m primary qualified.

Is it possible to work very part time? For example PPA or NQT time. Ideally I’d love to work 2 half days. Is that wildly unrealistic?!

Thanks all.

I'm a HT in a hard to recruit area and I wouldn't appoint you for such short hours - its not worth my time and energy in terms of inducting you.
Sorry!
Try supply but even then you'll probably only get full days.

Thanks for your experience Maidup. I appreciate it might not be viable. I think I’m going to make contact with our local schools anyway. They seem to be recruiting every term, so it’s possible they might be more flexible.

I also live opposite the school and can be very flexible about days/times.

If you don’t ask, there’s no chance!

I think you’d have more chance on supply with a few schools - but then you’d have to consider what sort of notice you’d need. I’d say our school wouldn’t consider less than 2 days for employing teachers.

I have a friend who is working two afternoons covering PPA which is why I thought it might be an option but obviously it isn’t the norm, but is possible.

Unfortunately I can’t do supply as I need to ensure I have regular childcare arrangements.

Thanks for the advice.

Do you have a specialism you could offer for ppa time? Music/P.E./Language/R.E./Science would probably all work.
Might be another way to get noticed.

I'm secondary, but was 0.4 for years, I even did a year 0.2. This was all in a school where I was previously FT though.

Before I had my ds I worked full time and then 2 days a week and then 1 day a week however I was already in the school and were very understanding however I was told that they regretted agreeing to one day due to oncosts, sorting ppa, ensuring my cpd was up to date etc. They said they would never offer a 1 day contract again. I also found it quite difficult.

You'd be more employable to offer your two halves as one full day.

How about tutoring instead?
