Argh, pgce interview on Thursday!!

I sent in my application THIS MORNING!!' And have received an interview invitation from one of my 3 choices this afternoon!! I'm so so chuffed!

BUT...... It's in 3 day's time! I'm away visiting family atm, not due back home until 23rd.
The interview is 2hrs away from my dm's house, which is where I'm staying, I'd have to go home (3hrs drive) 1st to collect my quals, I have 2 children under 10 who have broken up for Christmas, so they'd need looking after by someone! (My dm works) I've done no prep in my subject knowledge, I'd have to start prepping a 15min teaching session, plus an interview! Plus they want me to have passed at least 1 of my literacy/numeracy tests before interview, which I haven't done but have booked for Jan, argh!!

In all honesty, I thought they wouldn't even consider interviews until after Christmas!! So I didn't put that I wasn't available this week.

I have 2 scenarios.....

Email and ask for a later date after Christmas,

Or, ask if I can attend without the quals evidence, which I could email over/drop off at a later date and without the numeracy/literacy test done, but with a booked in date for January!

The 1st option would be ideal, but I don't want to scupper my chances Sad

Wwyd??!!!

I would phone and ask for option 2. You might find that whoever you speak to offers a delay as it has been such short notice.

I can't imagine anybody could be ready with 3 days notice given how much they want done.

Welcome to the ridiculous, poorly thought through debacle that is teaching. It's a good opportunity to get used to the feeling of anxiety and slight disbelief as this will pervade much of your career.

Thank you lowdoor for replying.
That's what I was worried about, if I ask to reschedule they may think I'm not cut out for teaching if I can't prep with 3 day's notice a week before Christmas!!

What subject are you interviewing for?
I think they would understand if you weren't available two days before Christmas at three days notice. They are chancing it given that you only sent your application this morning!

noblegiraffe · 18/12/2017 17:55

Misread! 4 days before Christmas is still pushing it!

SparklingSnowdrops · 18/12/2017 17:56

I had a PGCE interview and didn't take my quals and hadn't passed my key skills. The quals were given after I had been offered a place and the stipulation on the skills was that they were passed before the course started.

PinkAvocado · 18/12/2017 17:56

I think they should understand it’s too short notice so I’d contact them and ask for a date after Christmas.

Lol. My thoughts exactly. I've only been called for interview that soon once, and it wasn't a good sign.

coconutnut · 18/12/2017 18:03

Thank you! It's secondary geography, but I completed my degree in 2009, so although I dabble occasionally with parts the subject I'd have to do some cramming for interview!

I could do it, but it would be a crap interview compared to having a couple week's notice (and fecking Christmas not being in the way!!)

This happened last year to DS. All three places sent interview dates within a couple of days of him sending the application. Two clashed and the third was on a date he had said he wasn't availableHmm.
He got two rearranged and did the other. There was very little time to prepare.
In the end he was offered the first one which was his first choice anyway.

NoWayInn · 18/12/2017 19:20

The offer was subject to the numeracy / literacy test which was done much later.

coconutnut · 18/12/2017 20:04

That's good to know noway thank you!.... How's he finding his year?

Hmm, can you tell the government haven’t met it’s target number of people on teacher training courses!?

I would do option 3, OP-run for the hills! Grin. Sorry to be negative!!

coconutnut · 19/12/2017 17:28

Good news! I've managed to rearrange for next year 😀
I have also had invitation for interview for my other 2 choices too 😀
