Staff room make me feel left out

So no matter how hard I try to blend in....why do I feel that I am disliked in the staffroom? There is a particular TA who if I sit next to her on the table, will turn away from me on her phone and look at the person on the other side or even behind her. She also looks at me in a funny way... I get the impression that I am being talked about and her eyes are giving it away. Would you ignore ppl like that? Sit elsewhere? Or make an effort....which is what I have done but to no avail. Petty? .....I know... but if you know the staffroom then you'll know how it is....thanks!!

Oh God, seriously, ignore! Don’t try to sit with her, be her friend, please her. She’s a nasty, unwelcomong person who haș some kind of grudge.
Sit somewhere else, pick someone nicer, ignore them all and relax with your own thoughts, or even take a book. But do not change yourself to try to make her deign to speak to you.
Maybe there’s someone else on their own.

Does the ‘staff room make you feel left out’ or do you ‘feel left out in the staffroom’? I think there is a significant difference between those statements. How long have you been in post? And what is your role?

Thanks for the replies. I am a teacher but now ppa cover (due to having my baby). I think you hit the nail on the head.... I feel like I am trying to please her and win her over. I guess I'm silly and just too polite sometimes. ...I hate conflict.
ps... it's not the staffroom bur certain ppl making me feel like the odd loner.

Avoid them! They’ll have some stupid grudge that’s nothing to do with you and your ability to do the job, like you unknowingly sat in their chair or used their mug on your interview day. Or when you were nervous you didn’t laugh at one of their jokes, or you’ve got the same handbag as Doreen and they can’t stand her.
There’ll be someone nice. Sit with them.

Also, you’re not the person on mat leave. They probably want her back. Annoying and immature attitude. They’ll get over it.

Oh sorry, you’re not covering matt leave. I misread. As PPA teacher you might be doing work they wanted/ expected. Again, not your fault. Maybe they used to use TAs for PPA.
They also won’t like it if you do things a tiny bit differently to their usual teacher. That’s okay, just do what works for you.
I loved doing PPA- no class for too long and usually some fun subjects!

Had the same thing with some members of staff who were like that with most people. Better people now but not the friendliest place. Good to accept that though. I don't really want to be some doing time outside of school with people I work with. Some people are like that - they're probably also the ones who are happy to go on about themselves and don't give a shit about anything you say. They're really not worth worrying about.
