Collective Worship

Are church primary schools legally required to perform a collective act of worship everyday? Or can child be taken out to read/ work with teacher once a week?

They are, but many (most) don't. Pupils can be withdrawn by parents but again, if the pupil is withdrawn by school I don't imagine anyone will care!

Even non-denominational schools are technically required to have it. Children can be withdrawn. They’d probably be put in a room with that someone on PPA so I wouldn’t expect them to get extra help or support in that time. They’d just be expected to read quietly or draw most likely. I work in a Catholic secondary and in practice having children withdrawn from worship would be a massive headache. We have assemblies, prayer at the beginning of many lessons, prayer on coaches before school trips, prayers (and hymns) at big school events and sports fixtures and regular masses. It’d be a logistical nightmare if parents who had chosen a church school then started withdrawing their children from the church bits.

I read the question the other way DA - are you trying to check that it is acceptable to use the time for one-to-one interventions. Don't have the knowledge to answer though it would seem reasonable to me! (son is in independent prep and currently missing chapel most weeks in order to see the school counsellor without missing lessons; also misses assembly one day a week for his piano lesson)

Oh, I’ve obviously read this wrong. Ignore me.

I would think that daily class prayers would class as collective worship and therefore assembly can be used for intervention/guided reading etc
