Retraining from teaching

This is the one time I can get out - due to childcare costs we wouldn't have a big financial hit if I leave and retrain as of sept 18. I am seriously considering it.

What have people done when they left teaching? I've been looking at totally different desk jobs or some bits at the local university, need to think very carefully about if/what to do.

I love teaching. Being in a room with students and having fun. The rest of the education stuff is just wearing me down so much. Any advice?

I left to become a Learning Technologist/Learning Designer at a university. I get about 44 days leave a year and work 35 hours a week. Have a look at getting CMALT.

I've been looking at some bits at the local authority. Big decisions...

Watching with interest. I'm an English teacher in a similar position and would love a route out. I can't cope anymore.

Following with interest (and a heavy heart...)

I've been looking at management roles in the NHS and good old accountancy today!

CMALT sounds interesting. Will look into that.

I left for an admin job, I manage an office now and I love it. I’m considering heading back into teaching in a year or so, I was secondary and I’d like to change to primary. When I left I said I’d never go back but what I needed was a clean break and a rest.

Find something else and see how you get on: you may change your mind once you’ve stepped away a bit.
