We're almost at half term and there's been so many bloody whining 'reasons I hate my child's school' threads I figured I would start a school shout outs thread to remind ourselves that most people are really nice, polite and supportive.

Here are mine:

Shout out to the lovely parents and children who make our job enjoyable. Seriously, you have no idea how much we value you and how when we are having a shit day we see your children on our registers and smile.

Shout out to the parent who spotted a technical issue with homework and called me to chat rather than being one of those outraged ones who demand meetings.

Shout out to the student who has a parent who is 'one of those parents' who came to see me voluntarily to talk about how she can work on her attitude.

Shout out to our curriculum support member of staff who sorted my resource nightmare this week.

Shout out to our trainee teacher for bringing cake in. We needed it.

Shout out to the RQT in science today who organised an exciting and engaging trip to the science museum for a ks3 group today and even managed to make me (a grouchy and cynical old English teacher) have fun.

Shout out to our amazing TAs who make the day run so much smoother and are seriously underpaid for the work they do.

Shout out to the lovely children who leave drawings on my desk to cheer me up when I've been in meeting after meeting all week.

Shout out to half term, I'm so glad you're nearly here!

Shout out to all the teachers at my fantastic SEN school. You all do a brilliant job in challenging circumstances and always with a smile on your face. Have a great half term!

Shout out to my ds's new form tutor/PE teacher who told his Year 9 tutor group about how he was off for 6 months with Anxiety & what help is available. Such a contrast to his previous PE teacher who had a "man up & never admit weakness attitude" & ds's anxiety was seen as a behavioural issue. Ds is now using some of the strategies & feels that someone understands.

Shout out to all involved in teaching/pastoral care for my DD at her new sixth form. You all got to know her so quickly and clearly value and respect her as a person. She has huge respect for you all, as do I, and she is on a mission to do you all proud over the next two years.

I work with wonderful staff in Alternative Provision. Tough, tough day, great support from top down. Love my job. But pretty glad tomorrow is the last day of half term!

Shout out to Academic Mentor at 6th Form making our child believe that Yes You Can really does mean Yes You Can. Because boring lame old ma and dad saying it just wasn't cutting the mustard.

Another one from me:
Shout out to my GCSE class for making me laugh to the point of tears this week.

Dd2 is loving year 6. Her teacher seems fab and dd comes home full of beans every day.
Dd1 is in year 9. I can't really ever remember a time when she's come home and complained about a teacher at her school. I'm obviously miffed that I've been denied the opportunity to start an AIBU thread or storm up the school and demand a meeting with the Head etc.

Shout out to my colleagues who make me laugh so much. Favourite quotes of the week, "Stop swearing, I'm phoning a parent!" and "I've bought this thing off Ann Somers......."

Shout out to my year 9 class who make me laugh every single lesson-from dressing up in the sombreros they found in the Spanish room and 'liberated' to make their version of despacito 'more authentic' and who regularly play hide and seek in my classroom to jump out at me and see if they can make me scream when I'm doing the intro at the beginning of the lessons
To my GCSE group who have a 'cake rota' and take it in turns to bring in treats for our after school sessions
To my lovely amazing colleagues who make me laugh every day
To the office staff who make sure we get paid and calm the cross parents down before they speak to us
To the catering staff who made us biscuits every day this week as they knew we were tired
To my nursery music classes who treat me like a rock star and line up for cuddles at the end of their lessons!
Too many to mention really, which is lovely 😊

Shout out to the 11 yr 12 students I see every day for making me realise that quitting school teaching and setting up by myself was absolutely the best thing to do.

Lovely thread - I'm missing working in schools now. Total kudos to all the committed and enthusiastic teaching staff and support staff out there. The difference you make is huge, especially when home is not a very safe or calm place.

Shout out to the science teacher who is so wonderful for my Ds and Dd and to the woman who supported my Dd with her uni application

Shout to my school team (I’m admin) who looked after me when I got my first migraine this week, sent me home, checked on me and ensured I didn’t go back until I was right —today— even though my not being there will have caused them issues.

Shout out to my YGL who has made my life much less stressful over the last two years; and listens when I need her too despite having a very stressful job. Miss D, you're amazing.

Shout out to the fellow teacher in my year who has been a real friend.

Shout out to my hod who is so supportive and sharing of his time and resources!! He is so understanding and supportive and really is the reason moving to this school has worked out for me!!

Great shout outs ladies. We made it to half term!

Shout out to ny colleagues who will be with me doing an extra curricular for free with me one day in half term.

Shout out to the amazing primary teachers who were so keen to learn new stuff and go outside their comfort zones in my workshops today. You made all the prep worthwhile and I hope your classes will have fun!

Shout out to the NQT who taught my DC1 in Reception and later DC2 too, who is now a Head and was genuinely interested to hear how they're getting on now. You inspired them!

To the school that just employed me so that I can escape my hideous MAT! I enjoyed my interview lesson more than I have the past year!

Also shout out to the mum of a student who dh doesn't normally teach but who he helped with something she was struggling with as it's his specialist area.

Yesterday she turned up with a loccitane bag for him as a thank you When he got home there was a bottle of gin hidden in there!
