Teacher register - who are you and what do you teach?

Having seen loads of teachers around on various threads I thought it would be nice to find out who's who and what you do.

I'm a secondary maths teacher in a comp, been teaching for 12 years, part time for about 8. No TLRs which gives me plenty of time to post ranty threads about the state of education.

I hate Gove and like to picture him in his wellies inspecting pig farms, which is what I like to think his current job is all about.

I've been teaching in primary for eight years and I'm currently an Assistant Head.

On maternity leave at the moment though Smile

MFL by trade and training (and ten years time honored service!) but now SENDCO having got there via a circuitous route through HOD and EAL specialist.

I'm PT, ish, in that I work four days... sadly spread over five.

Currently on MAT leave. Ahhhhh. Been missing my mumsnet fixes but now winter's coming I might start popping up on the forums again.

Sorry, very late - missed this thread completely until I saw it referenced elsewhere! Secondary English. Trained 5 years ago and since have done some teaching and some LSA roles depending on family situation. I've been in some schools that didn't suit me at all and I thought teaching wasn't for me but am currently somewhere that suits me and am part-time so enjoying it.

Primary teacher here. Taught R, mixed 1/2, year 2 and year 4. Haye the work/life unbalance so did supply instead and now Fostercarer for mums and babies together.

Secondary English and Media teacher (and history this year... again FFS!). Been teaching ten years, currently in year 7 at this one, a comprehensive in the SE. Doing a head of subject job for no pay or time. Love the kids, tolerate my department, tolerate management and their budget panicked decisions. Want to ask to go part time next year. DD will be 3.5 and I want to claim our weekends back. It's making me miserable working 60+ hours per week.

I'm also dyslexic which is great fun. Not.

NQT in year 1! Last year I covered in year 6 but it wasn’t my NQT!

Secondary English here. Taught for 9 years in a challenging London state comp (started as an NQT and worked my way up to 2ic), before going on mat leave. The workload and constant monitoring was ridiculous! I've since moved to a different city and started p/t (0.4) at a new school as a classroom teacher. There is very little monitoring at my new school and teachers are trusted to get on with their job, which is exactly what I need with a baby.

Very late to the party here. Sorry. Secondary Maths at state grammar. Part time and TLR for KS5 lead in Maths and HOD for Latin (I am the only member of my Latin dept 😃)

How can you have the time to be KS5 coordinator in maths and the entire Latin department? And part time?!

I work on some of my days off I guess. I am half joking about the Latin. I have a title of HOD in Latin but the reality is I run a lunchtime club to GCSE. KS5 coordinator I have done for about 10 years and we are a very friendly, collaborative department. My DOF is brilliant and we share parts of the responsibility out. My teaching load is almost entirely KS5 Maths and FM. The FM classes are smaller so I have less marking. I’m not sure really but it does work somehow (results are good and work life balance is very important to me).

A lunchtime club that takes GCSE just sounds like teaching through lunch?

I’m surprised by just how many teachers have signed in. I wonder if there are as many representatives of other professions on MN. Makes me realise just how big the user-base is!

Noble I know but being part time it is easy to allocate that as a lesson - I am paid for it. This school treats us very fairly on the whole. Yes we have our issues and annoyances. I think it helps that I have been there so long, am in a shortage subject and have an incredible line manager.

Secondary geography here- qualified in 1994, did 7 years in a tough comprehensive then escaped for 6 years to have a lovely time at home with the dds. Went back when my youngest started school and I now teach part time again in a state comp (but nicer one!)
only 0.5 though due to funding constraints ie our school and LA, yes we are one of 3 secondaries still in LA control in our county but we have NO money.
Lots of GCSE and A level which I love and a year 7 class this year which are driving me up the wall!
