Y7 driving me mad!

I know that sounds awful but they really are!

So, so needy! Following me around the classroom constantly, tale telling and interrupting!

I forget every year just how needy they are at the start!

This year's class are quite noisy as well

I think I will need this weekend!

Imagine how I feel teaching Reception 2 days a week. Needy is an understatement. At least Y7 don't stroke your hair and ask you to wipe their bum.

Not my experience of a couple of the new year 7s!

I have 5 Year 7 groups.

Miss, can I take my blazer off?
Miss, shall I start a new page?
Miss, shall I glue this in?
Miss, I've lost my pen (it's right there)
Miss, what's the title?
Miss, shall we write this down?
Miss, I've left my pen/bag/jumper/bottle in Science, can I go and get it? (no)

Hard work! And I used to teach Primary so I know how independently they used to work in Y6- have they just forgotten?!

That sounds exactly like my new Y7 class OP! I haven't taught Y7 for a few years so it was a bit of a shock when the first thing I asked them to do was write their name, form and my name on the front of their books and I was bombarded with about fifty questions/problems.

Ha! I'm not a teacher but do own a new year 7 (and my PFB to boot!)
I just want to say a huge thanks to you all for hiding the frustrations and being brilliant. Only a Friday to go, enjoy the wine and weekend.

Iwanna I love them really. It's been lovely getting to know (all 160 of) them and their personalities.
I've done countless ties, fastened laces, fixed blazer collars, packed bags, found missing items and mopped up plenty of tears this month. Leaving Y6 may have felt so grown up to you, but in Y7 they are back to being babies again. I'm quite protective of them.

Me: so are we all clear on what we're doing?
Yr 7s: yes
Me: put your hand up if you need something to write on
No hands up
Me: put your hand up if you need something to write with
No hands up
Me: put your hand up if you need some help before we start
No hands up
Me: OK! Let's go!!
Various year 7s: Miss, I haven't got a pen, Miss, what have I got to do, Miss, I haven't got a book!

Over and over and over again..... I love children, but for the love of God!!!

Make. That. Decision. Yourself.

"Miss, can I turn the page over?" Hearing the same answer 50 times. And that kid randomly getting up to help themselves to something. The first time that happens they generally realise it almost causes the teacher to have a meltdown and it Never. Happens. Again. Love 'em really

Haha yes, "Miss can I go on to the next page?" My kids don't believe they say that :D

(Given an A4 sheet and told to stick it in) Miss it won't fit, shall I fold it?)

Repeat ad infinitum. I have four yr 7 groups and I agree, they seem to have forgotten what to do! Gotta love em really!

Glad it's not just me! I do love them really - they are generally really nice kids and mostly just want to get it right bless them!

I keep reminding myself to make the most of it before they morph into moody year 9's

Yep. I two groups. One so so needy. In fact I sent their tutor an email to say so. (He had asked to be told if they were unprepared).
