Room change debacle....

So, a colleague is leaving.
As soon as it was made official, I went to see HoD about changing to their room (apx twice the size and a much better shape than my current one).
Their exact words were 'I don't see why not'.
Today, the room came up at a meeting - it turns out that once they said yes to me, they also told two other staff that they might be able to move onto it!
You can see what's coming here, can't you?
I wasn't prepared to have a stand up row with them, so ended up agreeing to having names drawn out of a hat.
Of course, I know it's a bit childish, and I have to suck it up, but it was weeks ago I was told I could have it....
Of course someone else's name was drawn.

How incredibly frustrating Wine

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 06/07/2017 19:59

Sucks and is terrible that they promised too many people. Have a Wine and some Cake

PippaFawcett · 06/07/2017 20:00

Grrr. Poor managers piss me off, your HoD obviously didn't want to say no to anyone.

sweetfig · 06/07/2017 20:03

mine.... how crap and not fair. Let's hope said new room will become contaminated with something highly unpleasant!
I can emphasise with you though. I totally loved the lab I had last year. I was not one bit impressed when I was 'told' one day before the start of the year I had to change to another smaller one which leaked when ever it rained Angry

Blazedandconfused · 06/07/2017 20:08

I just can't get stressed over having no room/ shit room any more. There are far more stressful things going on at work 😭

mineofuselessinformation · 06/07/2017 20:10

Blazed, I've coveted the room ever since I joined the school.
I get on really well with the person who is moving, so I hope there will be no contamination involved! Just lots and lots of clearing out.

Sorry to hear that, OP. At least now you know the manager is spineless and can act accordingly next time there's a situation like this.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 06/07/2017 20:42

Not at all fair though if someone just jumps in quick asking for it and gets it - the drawing straws seems fairest.

TheCrowFromBelow · 06/07/2017 20:43

God I hate names out of hat. I lost out on a ski holiday with my parents because some fucker at work made me do names out of hat for holiday time, when he admitted that all he was going to be doing was sitting around in his pants smoking weed - and he could have done that any week of the year.
Not a teacher but I share your pain.

PippaFawcett · 06/07/2017 20:45

TheCrow, I am Angry on your behalf!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/07/2017 20:47

What's the room like of the person who got "the" room?

Sympathies, I was kicked out of my lab for a colleague. My beautiful, quiet, modern lab. To a shitty small one with connecting doors to other rooms that was so loud and didn't have enough desks for all my classes. Booooo!

mineofuselessinformation · 06/07/2017 20:48

Why not Mrsguy?
I already knew said colleague was leaving, but waited until it was official and everyone knew, so we all had the same chance - and it was weeks ago.
