Handing in notice

I accepted a job last week by email.
Do I wait on until a letter is sent before handing in my notice?

And does anyone have any stories of a job being offered and then offer taken back (crb dbs issues aside)

Yes, a woman in our company had her job offer rescinded before she started as she complained about her office on her induction day
She also complained about her working hours

Wait until everything is confirmed in writing. DM had a job offer withdrawn once due to an issue with references.
