Dropping a potential law career to go into primary education

Hi all,

I recently completed the undergraduate stage of my law studies and had planned on completing the final part in 2017/18 but since getting a role in a law firm I've started to have serious doubts about it.

I really just have a couple (well, four) of questions and they are: Has anyone here come into teaching from a career like law, accountancy, banking etc and how did you find the transition?; and if you could do it again, would you?

And the same question again, but vice versa (if you've left teaching to go into law, accountancy banking etc)?

I went into primary teaching after four years as a solicitor and it was the single best decision I've ever made.

I have a friend who was a lawyer and went into teacher training in her late 30s she's now 54 and still loves teaching more than law.

I once worked with a colleague who'd left teaching after a nervous breakdown and took up accountancy instead. He lasted about 5 years and then went back to teaching as he couldn't pass the accountancy exams he needed to in order to get anything more than a low paid, low grade job as he simply couldn't afford the pay cut to remain an accounts clerk forever. Funny thing is when he went back to a different school, he absolutely loved it and was glad his accountancy career hadn't worked out.

I think part of what is preventing me from committing to the idea of teaching is the fear of not having the same status or potential salary in teaching (not to mention that I'll have to wait another year before starting my career). However, aside from that I can only see upsides to teaching (inc. the ability to teach both privately and internationally).
