I've got out!

After 22 years of science teaching in 4 schools North and south I've got a non teaching job this week as a pastoral support officer in the school I've been in for the last 8 years. I'm elated. It's a drop in pay but the cost to my mental health in the last 10 years has been too high. Any similar experiences?

Well done you! 😀

I'm now in an education outreach role in industry. Never been happier!

Well done you! I can't wait to join you...

Me too. An office job which will suit me just fine. Big drop in salary but like so many, worth it for my sanity. Looking forward to:- no marking, no planning, no parents' evenings, no relentless meetings schedule, no being held responsible for lazy students' exam results, no dealing with new GCSE and A level stresses, no OFSTED, no results day panics. Just 9-5 and getting my life back!

Ooh enjoy. I got out last year and I still have dreams about teaching, marking and a couple of terrible heads/SLT folk. On the whole, I made an excellent choice and I won't go back. I didn't take a cut in pay which is nice, but even if I had I wouldn't have worried. My own health is worth more than any money or job.

Me too. I am working for an exam board which means I can work from home - no more scary commute through snow in the depths of winter.

ApplePizza · 03/05/2017 17:09

How did you get the job with the exam board?

Envy at anyone getting out.

I was sent an email which listed the vacancy. I was already working for them as a Senior Examiner.
