Can I get away with black trousers and floral blouse with jacket?

Is the jacket needed?

Primary or secondary? Classroom or leadership?

Mermaidinthesea · 11/03/2017 15:57

I'd wear a jacket definitely, that sounds fine.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/03/2017 15:58

I have never worn a jacket, even for SLT jobs (secondary, got the jobs...)

I've always worn a trouser suit with shirt or v smart top under as I feel professional and confident.

However so long as you are in neat and tidy business dress I really don't think it will have any influence on the outcome.

Secondary, just classroom teacher

Should the blouse not be plain? It's black with flowers don't know if it's a bit loud although I like it

The blouse sounds fine. However if you are going to feel uncomfortable wear something else that you do feel comfortable in. That's the most important thing.

apotheke · 11/03/2017 16:40

And good luck!

Thanks!

Trouser suit with smart t-shirt got me a job Smile

Trousers and a blouse of any pattern (or plain) is absolutely acceptable for all School vacancies. You do not NEED a jacket but if you feel more comfortable wearing one then go ahead.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 12/03/2017 00:18

Maybe wear the jacket for first impressions but then take it off for teaching etc? I do that so I feel more "normal" for the classroom parts. Good luck!

A lovely colleague of mine notably wore a bright green jacket for her interview - HoD says they said in discussion "oh yes, the one in the green jacket" so her message is to wear something memorable :)

That said, I was once at an interview where a lass wore a very short summery dress which actually split during the morning and she had to get the office staff to sew it up - she got the job!

What you suggest sounds fine OP, I would wear a black skirt/trousers and jacket plus smart top or dress with black jacket myself.
