Private tuition

Hi!
I'm doing supply at the moment (primary) but hardly getting any work as I can only do 1 day a week due to childcare issues...

Thinking about doing some private tuition

Anybody here doing it & loving it?

Not sure where to start, do you do it from home or go to them?

I've got a 7 & 2 year old so they'd be around at home after school. Could do Saturdays too

Do you approach local schools to advertise?

We have the Kent test here so I'm sure there'd be lots of potential pupils

Any advice would be really appreciated

I've been tutoring for nearly ten years and really enjoy it. Started when I left my permanent job and went on supply. I tutor at the weekends when DH can look after the kids. I advertise on websites like our local council one on their business pages. I have approached schools but a lot of work now comes from word-of-mouth. I tutor from home as it's so much easier with resources, plus I'm working for exactly an hour, no travelling time.

I like having very little behavioural issues to deal with and can really see progress so much quicker than in the classroom. Downsides would be parents cancelling at the last minute. I guess I could take a deposit beforehand but that feels unfair if a child is unwell.

I tutored for several years before I did my PGCE. I used websites like firsttutors to advertise. I loved it, I will probably go back to it now I have kids as it is preferable to teaching, like pp said, you can see progress much quicker so it is more rewarding, as well as less behaviour issues as it's 121.

Been tutoring for 11 years and I love it
I have been a primary teacher and have worked in FE so I have a wide range of clients.
English is my specialism so I'm always busy.
I work for an agency and also get clients through word of mouth. I earn far more than I did as a teacher as well.
You have to be adaptable and set down some ground rules to do well.
