This is the year that I NEED TO get out - what can I retrain as??

I'll break if I have to do another year. DP is also a teacher - observations looming mean it's been a fucking miserable weekend in our house and ds has been overlooked again.

Ds started school this year and I work 0.8 so have Wednesdays off - I could use that time to study maybe?

Complicated career though - I did a degree in primary education in 2000 (taught for 5 years in primary) then fell into FE where I've been ever since. Head of Department teaching a subject I enjoy but don't have a degree in.

Degree in primary education feels pretty useless now...

I don't want to tutor or be in education at all.

What would you do? Any suggestions please??

My degree is in education too and I've been researching different career options, unfortunately without taking quite a pay cut or undergoing significant retraining I haven't been able to find anything suitable yet. Hopefully someone will be along with a dream job for teachers!

Thanks Mist we're trying to make time to have a serious look at our finances to see if we could cope with both of us dropping to lower salaries which is really daunting.

Since I've qualified, I've tried secondary, primary, post 16 and SEN and I still hate it!
Can't find anything that pays anywhere near what we need though so biting the bullet and going back to post 16 within a school after maternity leave. I'm not looking forward to it!!

I am retraining as a childminder AND I was offered to work for a local mum!
There is light 'on the other a side'.

I had a most horrendous end to my career - forced out by maliciousness. A head who has despised me for two years and this was a woman who I admired, liked, looked up to and had the upmost respect for until she turned on me for no good reason except my 'plans' badly affected her own. I feel let down, hurt and lied to!
I am pleased I am moving onto pastures new. It's good to take a clean break. The past 8 weeks have taught me that I feel clean and fresh now that I out of a toxic and evil environment.
Good luck in your quest to find a new career. You can do whatever you want. There are no limits to what 'we' can do!
For me, I have enjoyed being at home and enjoyed my children. Even my husband has 'seen the light' and realised that money isn't everything and says that I am more relaxed, have more energy and smile more!

Cover Supervisor? Teach all day, prepare nothing, mark nothing?
I did actually once almost just apply to Aldi. I have a string of qualifications but there was an attraction in a job that was finite. Do the work, go home.

I teach my subject on a self-employed basis in primary. Do a bit of tutoring and a bit of supply.
Best bits of teaching and learning, none of the crap. More satisfied than I've ever been in my career.

I teach pt in a pru now. Intense days but small marking load and massive job satisfaction when it goes well.

Same but everything I think of is starting again and so a pay cut. One thing I have looked at but not in detail is instructional design or e-learning. Need to do training in it but might be something if you are computer literate?

If you're in an 11+ area, what about tuition? Cover supervisor also good, but obviously the salary only goes up to a certain level.

You can't earn a salary with 11+ work, though.

you will find something. Everyone in my department is absolutely desperate to get out. you are not alone!

It's £40-50 ph here. But you could do PT work in the day too.

What about something in social care or the local council?

Asssesment and review officer?

Working for a local send charity?

Family and parent support?

Autism outreach?
