How much should we pay a poet?

One of the poets whose work is on the IGCSE syllabus is visiting our city (abroad, Europe) and we asked if he'd come to our school to speak to our IGCSE students for 30 mins. or so. He said yes. Now his agent is asking how much we can pay. What is acceptable?

Has anyone had a poet to visit before, and how much did they charge?

He won't be selling books so our fee would be his only income for this visit (he is coming to the city for another event).

Please help! I need to reply to the agent ASAP! Thanks in advance.

Ask the agent what they normally charge. There ought to be a standard rate for school visits.

£200 plus travel and subsistence

Why can't he sell his books there?

30 mins? £50-80. We normally pay £180 for quite a well-known slam poet to visit and do 2 or 3 workshops, each an hour or so long with a range of ages. We pay travel too as he comes up just to see us.
