You know it's the end of term when

You try to get everyone up at 6.45 only to be told by dd aged 11 that it is a Sunday. Conversely on holiday you finish lunch at around 2.45 and think it is the start of the afternoon not the end of the teaching day. what are your tell tale end of term signs?

Mine is as follows:

Waking up feeling 'not stressed!'
Enjoying my weekend - the run up to breaking up for the summer!
Not having to stay back for endless after-school sessions

Roll on the summer break for all fellow teachers! Here is hoping the new education minister is NOT like Gove or Morgan!

You've left everything till the last minute as usual and still have all your evidence folders and pupil information to prepare...and no time left to do it.

You look at the weather forecast with dread knowing that you will get nothing out of your pupils even though the Head wants the school day to stay the same until the final afternoon.

Why couldn't the good weather have waited until the following week?!

The parents are lobbying for which teacher / friendship group combo they want / don't want for next year.

It's Sunday afternoon and I'm on MN and not marking.

Your nails are wrecked from the blinking staples that are needed to be removed from the walls because someone has borrowed your staple remover and not returned it!!!!!

You have transition booklets to finish and children upset about the new teachers who they will declare are the best ever by October half term
Plus a cancelled sports day that we may have to rerun and year sixes who are way too big to be with us still.

Oh yes the joys of musical classrooms as well, with no one able to move until the top of the chain has got their shit together

Oohh can't wait for the what day is it feeling. Although I always get the time check feeling during the holiday which coincides with the end/start of lesson times. I just get this naggy feeling that I ought to be doing something.

It takes me two weeks not to need the toilet at 'break time'

Realising you've gone the whole day without having a wee! I have to time my toilet visits at work but when I can go when I want I just don't.

The head makes it non uniform day on the last day but then says we have to teach until the final lesson. Uh huh sure.

You have to teach until the last minute, but current exercise books have to be passed on in the penultimate week.

We are also playing musical class rooms but no one can move because there is no top of the chain.

Parents' evenings every day in the meltingly hot dining room that still smells of that day's lunch, trying not to fall asleep on the desk...

You realise that next week is Activities Week and SLT have allowed 63 students to sign up for the drama workshop you thought it would be a good idea to offer...

I did have a great holiday, thanks. It is a useful week. We get a lot done.

My school also returns for 6 days before students return. Well, 4 full days then Year 12 come in for an induction which involves a small number of staff for a few hours each, and on the final day before term, parents and students can wander into the school if they wish and come to say hi so we must be in our classrooms but can get on with preparations (usually manic cleaning).

Angels Sorry, I confess, I'm a terrible hoarder although I do use, and even share, what I hoard. I hate being unprepared so like to leave at the end of the summer term with as much locked in my cupboard as I possibly can for the start of the next academic year. Problem: the cupboard's tiny. (Also I panic all holiday about losing the key).
