Bit unsure how to apply so wanted to check. For the last few years I haven't gone straight back into teaching, been working in a hotel part time to fit in with the children in school and getting them settled in schools. Now wish to apply for a T.A. position and want to know what to put on my application. I have recently gone back to volunteering in a local school. Can't put that down as a reference as I haven't been there that long.
Do I put down my current job as a reference ? Hotel industry !!! Will schools look badly on this ? I took a hotel job as we needed the money and it was so flexible for me to fit in with the family life at the time. Now looking to get back into school.
Any ideas and advice appreciated ?

It shows you had a job, using communication skills (presuming you were on reception or in another public facing roles) and IT (if appropriate).

Big up any examples at the hotel where you handled situations with children maybe, e.g. helping to calm a child who was lost, but there are good transferable skills there.

Thanks, Ok, so definitely put down on the application form and use for my first reference ? If I am unsuccessful in obtaining a job for September then I am going to continue at school volunteering and will then ask for a school reference after I have been there 6 months. Will this be okay?

Definitely put current job, whatever it is, as first reference. I take it you were are Teacher before? Is your Head still working? If so, I would put them as second reference. If not, then volunteer school.

Hi, thanks. No the Head I was working for has retired and I think even passed away.

Will do what you suggested as put my work down as first reference and then the voluntary school as second.
