End of year letter

Hi, I'm not a teacher but was hoping to get some advice. As the end of year approaches, I've been thinking about what to give to the DC's teachers. I've seen it said on here that a letter is always appreciated, especially as it can be used as part of performance review? The teachers my kids have had this year have been wonderful, especially DS's teachers (job share). I'd like to write to say thank you but was just wondering if there was anything in particular, phrases/buzzwords etc, that would help them?

I was going to try and focus on specific things they have done for DS that have helped him (in our opinion of course!). Does that sound like the kind of thing?

Ha! I read it and instantly thought 'progress' too! Phrases like above and beyond are good too. Pastoral and academic support.

And if you send a copy to the head as well that would be a lovely thing to do!

I have written to the Head and then put a cc copy in my thank you card to the teacher. It is absolutely worth doing to support any teacher who you feel has really understood and supported your child.

Agree with "progress" as the buzzword.

Didn't realise this kind of feedback/praise/thanks could count towards a teacher's appraisal...I will start keeping mine in a folder, although they might need a bit of editing (received a lovely card from a Year 13 student this year filled with kind words about my teaching and encouragement but the one phrase that stuck out was, "I've never met such a sociable teacher." Well, we do have a triple lesson on a Friday afternoon so talk does tend to stray into "what's happening at the weekend?" territory...)
