You know, the ones you have a good relationship with, not talking about berating some sensitive y7.

What, in mock exasperation, would you call a pupil who had e.g got a fiendishly difficult differential equation question wrong and you'd just spotted it was because they'd written 1x1=2?

Bakeoff- thank God Grin

I think no name calling is best tbh.

blueemerald · 25/05/2016 23:51

Unless, of course, you don't know what the phrases "good relationship" and "mock exasperation" mean?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/05/2016 23:52

Doofus

noblegiraffe · 25/05/2016 23:54

I called a Y9 a silly sausage the other day (I have a 6 year old so it naturally sprang to my lips). I got such a withering look.

Numpty might be a goer, it's got a ring to it.

I know DS (Y8) has been (affectionately) called both Doofus and Numpty by teachers, so either of those would be fine IMHO.

Wolfiefan · 25/05/2016 23:59

I'm not saying don't joke with students. I am pointing out that basing that joke on their inability to do something may not be the best idea. Many kids would hate this.

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2016 00:01

1x1=2 or the like is not an inability to do something, it's a silly mistake.

I'm not going to say 'you got that simultaneous equation wrong, you numpty'

Fucking douchebag? GrinGrinGrin

bakeoffcake · 26/05/2016 00:03

I did have to tell my very conservative MIL not to use twat. She thought it meant twit and had been using it quite liberallyGrin

planeymcplaneface · 26/05/2016 00:03

Dafty or for my niece she is a cookie when she does something silly

SilverBirchWithout · 26/05/2016 00:04

Fuckwit wouldn't work, I suppose?

Calling them a name, however innocuous is not good for self-esteem. Everyone makes silly mistakes accidentally, a wry smile and a bit of empathy would be better IMHO.

Just because you're a primary teacher doesn't mean you need to behave like you're in the playground.

redhat · 26/05/2016 00:04

I call mine doughnuts when they do something silly.

EverySongbirdSays · 26/05/2016 00:05

Noggin!!!

As in Rosie and Jim!

elephantoverthehill · 26/05/2016 00:06

I think I will try Fucking douchebag with my year 11s tomorrow. I am sure the lesson will go really well.

treaclesoda · 26/05/2016 00:07

If you were in Ireland you'd be an eejit. It's the perfect word for such a situation.

facebookrecruit · 26/05/2016 00:11

elephant I think the kids would probably find that hilarious

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2016 00:11

Just because you're a primary teacher doesn't mean you need to behave like you're in the playground.

I'm not a primary teacher and if I were to behave like my students do in the playground I'd be calling them a stupid twat.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 26/05/2016 00:12

Eejit is great, I wish I were Irish enough to use it!

LucyBabs · 26/05/2016 00:13

1×1 doesn't make 2?!

If my dc make a mistake I'll say "For gods sake Pedro" no idea why Smile

Lilacpink40 · 26/05/2016 00:13

Bakeoff I read your post as a joke. Sounded funny amongst all the 'safe' options Grin.
Rather than call my DCs a name I'd say "having a bad day?". Sighing and saying "for goodness sake" usually comes next.

defineme · 26/05/2016 00:14

Dafty, but never about a mistake, usually if they're putting themself down and I tell them not to be such a dafty. I probably raise an eyebrow at a silly mistake and ask if they can see it?

elephantoverthehill · 26/05/2016 00:17

I have used eejit as well, but the students don't get it! I am doing a revision quiz tomorrow with year 11 so could I award the 'Douchebag' prize?

Homebird8 · 26/05/2016 00:19

Noodle is always taken well round here.

scoobyloobyloo · 26/05/2016 00:33
