Any language teachers around?

I've got to do a presentation to our SLT in 2 days time about how our dept improve levels amongst KS3. My Head of dept is off with shingles so I don't want to bother her. I'm only into my 2nd year after NQT and I don't have the experience to do this! I'm truly panicking!

The thing is, while we teach basic structures, once they get familiar with those structures, we encourage pupils to add to their basic sentence by pulling in opinions, different adjectives, swooping nouns, etc. We provide language mats and levelling mats and pupils are encouraged to tackle an extended writing task almost like they would a jigsaw - add in piece by piece by following the set pattern until you have compound sentences.

That is it. How on earth am I meant to stretch that into 10 mins of talking and talking like a professional that knows her stuff instead of like an inexperienced teacher?

Call it a 'meta-cognitive' checklist. SLT love that shit. Because they can only improve their levels because they know exactly how to.

Take some pictures of work of kids showing that process. Maybe film some of the students telling you in their own words how they know how to improve their levels.

The thing about teaching is I find its all bullshit when it comes to meetings and presentations. Pretend you know what you're on about and they'll think you really do

Explain why you do this. What is the theory behind it, what are the outcomes, how can it be adjusted for different abilities, including g&t, how does it support transition to GCSEs, alevels, and how good is the take up of the subject?

That should get you through and then some!

Mention how it ties in with life after levels!
