I'm a mad to apply for a teaching job?

I am a qualified teacher and have been working as a early years advisory teacher for the last 7 years. I'm increasingly feeling like I want to be back with children again. Also my current job is by no means secure, the team has been reduced recently and there's a feeling we won't be around forever.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at a school with a YR position. Ideally I would like a Nursery Teacher role in a nursery attached to a school, but these jobs are not common where I live. The school I'm looking at has a nursery class so my thinking is maybe the position will come up in the future.

My question is I'm I mad to consider applying for a teaching job while so many teachers are leaving the profession?

I also worry I won't be able to practice what I preach!!

I wish all advisors had to do a regular stint at the chalkface.
Go for it.

As you say, your job isn't that secure, so it might be better to get out while the going is good, especially if you like the school.
How did you find teaching when you did it previously?

Well... Yes you are. I think you will be in for a shock...

BUT I don't think you should be allowed to advise others without teaching regularly, so go for it.

Thank you for your replies. I'm not completely out of practice as I have a preschool which I co own and work in two days a week.

So you are up to speed on all the paperwork, assessments and recording now required of EY? Experienced at completing it whilst dealing with multiple children and tasks and parents and meeting arbitrary, immediate deadlines set by SLT?
Fighting for basic resources that aren't seen as a budget priority?
Go for it, imagine how your credibility will soar if you become an advisor again.
