timetable rearranging

Can the headteacher make timetable rearrangements which would mean I'd have to give up a free afternoon (though I'd gain a free elsewhere)? Or can I say no?

They can do it so long as your overall contact time is in line with your contract.

What do you mean by free afternoon? Are you part time?

If it's just rearranging your PPA so it's somewhere else on your timetable then they can do that. If you're part time and usually go home at lunchtime and have other commitments in that afternoon then you could flag it up. I don't know if they'd have to let you keep it (ask your Union) but they should have another look.

Yes part time and doing school runs on afternoons I'm not teaching.

I'd email back and say that I couldn't change my working hours mid year as I now had other commitments in that time and see what they said.

I wouldn't say it was childcare because schools seem to think that that's not important, even though changing childcare arrangements is a pain and potentially costly.
