Would you swap full time for part-time with PT status?

Trying to recruit at the moment and one of the options is to change the role from full time to 3 or 3.5 days but with promoted PT status for most or all of that. Going on Scottish pay scales you would roughly 'lose' £7k but reduce workload whilst getting a promoted post...

What is PT status?

It depends on your situation, if you can afford to then I don't see why you wouldn't reduce your hours if that's what you want.

Why does it need to appeal to full time people primarily? What about those who want to be part time, but have the skills to be a PT?
I have done this in the past, would love to again.

No I still don't get it - who needs five days? I just think it's better to get someone who wants part-time (and will appreciate the opportunity and stay there) rather than someone whose ideal is full-time, who will use the post as a stepping stone to the first full time role that pops up.

You understand that department needs/school roll etc change from year to year, so just because it has been full time in the past doesn't mean it has to be now. Am just reading what is written in the OP.

We are remote rural and we are looking at the best structure to attract someone to the area. I'm just testing the water as to whether it would be as appealing/more appealing/less appealing to shift your family for a part-time job or whether we should push for full time.

I think the short answer is that any post is feasible if you find the right person to fill it - sadly like hens teeth round these parts!

I read it as you need full time but would consider part time for the right candidate (with a pulse). I would say that and see what you get.

It would be the headship that changes by the way, but it affects the teaching hours post that would need back-filled.

Having sifted through all of the pro & cons, I'm leaning towards we keep our own headteacher post and we can try and fill it - it's such a great opportunity for the right person, and makes for a better package (I think) when we are basically asking someone to make a complete lifestyle change, moving themselves and possibly their families to an island community.
The 3-day post wouldn't be promoted (the existing class teacher would get that, if they want it) so goodness knows who'd fill the 3 days - we're an island so it's not like it's easy to commute!

Any teacher feedback would be appreciated!
