Y7 Parent's evening.

Stupid question but what sort of thing do you tell parents?
Is there anything generic you aren't asked but wish parents would?

Is it the time to explain what test results mean?
Would you welcome an email or are parents allowed to make appointments with you to discuss particular issues or concerns.

Just trying to gauge what we hope to gain from parents evening, just after half term.

How long is the appointment? Is it for subject teachers? It's quite early if it's with subject teachers, I certainly don't know my students well enough to give much detail - some kids I still forget names.

In Y7 I tell parents what set they're in and what that means, how they're getting on in class, whether they're a pain in the arse, whether they do their homework and if there's anything in particular that stands out about them. The parents then usually say how much DC loved maths in primary and how Mrs X was a great teacher blah blah (I nod and look interested, but really don't remember any of it once the evening's over). They might have some questions, I might make a note to move them away from Jake or check they have written the homework correctly. Then 5 minutes are up and bam it's the next appointment. It's a bit like speed dating.

I have no idea, should I email her tutor and ask.
The whole thing is 90 min and have no idea which teachers they'll be.
In fact have no idea how it will be run at all.

I finally have the chance of one of our dc having a good education and have lost my way tbh.
I want to support as much as possible but have very little info.
I'm not even sure what I should be asking.

So far, verbal reports from teachers we know are pleasure to teach, fitted in well, looks very happy, great attitude to set work, contributes well in lessons, and has 1's and 2's for effort for work in class.

I'm used to could do better and 3 and below for effort, sits and dreams, and lots of negatives, so this is completely new.

If you haven't made appointments for individual teachers then it might just be a settling in appointment with the tutor? In which case it'll be more general stuff about friendships, extra curricular, whether they need support with anything, and maybe setting some targets.

I hadn't considered this, maybe they'll just tell us the results of their test, which I can't wait at having a go at deciphering.
I'll email her tutor tomorrow to double check.

My daughter had her first y7 parents evening, just a quick chat with tutor,passed on a few messages for other teachers. Spoke to the very nice pastoral assistant about a few admin related bits and pieces. Chance to talk to the senco if needed, all done in 30 mins.
