Contacting a former teacher

I'm not a teacher, but wish to contact a teacher I had for several years as a teen
She really inspired me to believe in myself, and I am (in a very roundabout way) doing what she said I could. Would you appreciate an email like that, 6 years after I left and 8 since she taught me? Or would it seem a bit self absorbed?

I would LOVE that. Especially with the current professional climate... To know someone remembers you, and is grateful to you....

Ooh, the warm fuzzies!

I would be over the moon if I received an email like that, so definitely worth doing!

How lovely. I often wonder about former pupils. This would make my day! Probably my year!

ladygracie · 22/08/2015 12:15

I would absolutely love to get an email like that.

LemonPied · 22/08/2015 12:17

I sent a facebook message to a former teacher to say thank you for her help as a screwed up teenager. She said she was really happy to get the message.

At my sons prize giving this year, a man who had been a teacher, and is still a writer, spoke about an email from an ex pupil he received, telling him how the teacher's encouragement had led the student to become a published author, himself.

I would expect a teacher to be delighted that they had inspired their students.

Yes, yes, absolutely yes! Even 20 years later would be wonderful. How lovely to know you are still thought of and might have had even the smallest impact on someone's life.

nothruroad · 22/08/2015 12:30

I would absolutely love that. Please do it, it will make her day. I sometimes hear from former pupils and it is always so nice.

BrendaandEddie · 22/08/2015 12:31

what do you expect us to say?

' no she would hate that'?

HumphreyCobblers · 22/08/2015 12:44

Oh do send the email. I just got a message letting me know that two sisters I taught in year one have now got excellent A level and GCSE results and thanking me for giving them a good start to their education. It made me really happy.

Definitely do it. It means a lot to know your efforts are appreciated and remembered.
