Teachers could be barred from progressing up the career ladder unless they agree to mark GCSES papers...

WTF?! I'm in primary so this wouldn't apply to me but if I was forced to mark SATs papers it could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

What a ridiculous claim. It'll never go through, there's not enough work for all the teachers anyway.

It is a useful thing to do in terms of understanding exactly what exam boards are looking for, but depending on the type of subject/exam format it can involve a huge amount of extra work.

If they were to make it compulsory they'd have to reduce contact hours. (This year my marking came before my yr11 gain time).

Just because the exam boards have had their marking done for free (CAs) for the last goodness know how many years - they don't want to fork out the money! I hope it doesn't go through - or it'll end up being part of our CPD.

This is the worst news I have heard all year.

PotteringAlong · 22/08/2015 15:02

I marked pre children but don't now as I decided if rather gouge my own eyeballs out than have to mark GCSE scripts again. Anyway, I'm top of the pay scale so I've got nowhere to go.

PotteringAlong · 22/08/2015 15:04

Just to clarify, I'll happily mark them as part of my cpd if I have cpd time to do them in.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/08/2015 19:43

Pay me for the extra time and I might think about it.

susannahmoodie · 25/08/2015 19:48

I did it for the first time this year....a level English. Never ever again, even if they quadrupled the money....
