Short interview lesson

Hello everyone,

I've got an interview next week at a school I'd love to work at. It's my first interview in 3 years so I'm a bit nervous.

I've been asked to teach a 30 minute literacy lesson to a lower KS2 class. It needs to have a writing outcome. I've got a few ideas but as I only have a short amount of time, do you think it will be best to do a simple lesson and focus on aspects of effective vocabulary? Any ideas what they might be looking for?

Also, what are they likely to ask in the interview? I'm thinking the focus might be on the new curriculum. If anyone has been to an interview recently could share the kind of things they've been asked to give me an idea, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for any help.

I did an interview lesson recently for a Yr 4 class (lower ability) and it went really well. The learning objective was making direct speech more descriptive (by using synonyms for 'said' and adding adverbs). The children started with different coloured cards - some with direct speech on, some with a Proper noun on, some with adverbs on and some with synonyms for 'said' on. Chn were told to pick a red card first (speech) and add a green card (synonym), blue card (noun) and yellow card (adverb). They then made various sentences ("I'm going shopping" exclaimed Mum excitedly etc.). They were asked to identify what was on the cards and questioned about why they would use synonyms/adverbs. They then did some drama type pair work where they had to say the direct speech in a certain way and their partner wrote down a sentence using a relevant synonym and adverb. I modelled it first. It was differentiated by giving lowers a list of synonyms and associated adverbs (squealed happily. Grumbled miserably etc). Middles had list of synonyms for 'said' only and highers had nothing. That was long winded!! I do have the lesson plan if you're interested. The feedback was really good and I got offered the job Smile

In terms of interview - usual safeguarding, SEND, parental engagement, using support staff effectively, assessment for learning type stuff. Lots of SMSC/British Values and cross curricula (especially ICT) and yes, new curriculum and assessment/level scrapping stuff.

Tilly, your lesson sounds good I might steal it for my class next year! I had a similar interview lesson a few years back, I did instruction writing based on their topic - gruesome medicines. It went well and I get the job.
