Primary RE help please

I've been asked to plan RE for KS2 for next term because the PPA cover teacher has left. I'm a trainee (School Direct) and have never planned or taught any RE ?
I know that the children 'hate' RE and find it 'boring' so I'm trying to find some resources/lessons that could make it more engaging.

Does anyone know of any websites/books/other resources which might be useful for me?

Do you know what objectives you need to cover? What aspects of which religions?

There are various ones for the 4 year groups. I have an outline overage plan for each year group but haven't looked that closely yet. I was just hoping to get a few websites/books recommended for me to get some ideas/info from.

I know one of the areas (for year 4 I think) is looking at how all the main religions celebrate things like weddings/coming of age/funerals etc. (clearly celebrate is the wrong word for funerals but ykwim! ).

Scrounge planning from other schools, look on the TES website and ask for support and planning, look at what's available from your local LEA

Making it interesting? Link with drama, art, groupwork, artefacts, virtual tours and interactives, games, celebrations and festivals, stories. Avoid blocks of writing

Why on earth would they find it boring? It's as interesting as any subject when taught well. Can you plan a trip somewhere as a carrot?

If you don't mind paying a small amount for resources, planbee have some easy to follow schemes of work, including power point style presentations, and differentiated work sheets with extension ideas. Can use as stand alone or supplement other schemes.

Mine find it boring. I used to find it boring, when I was at school...and I took it all the way through to Y13 as an elective. We are in a very "un-churchy" area and the mere mention of RE makes my class whinge. They are fine once we are doing the lesson and they've got something to do, though.

Not sure what churchy has to do with it, though perhaps the curriculum is more solidly Christian in some schools? My da studies different faiths and also various moral issue type things, fairness, Nelson Mandela etc. I suspect pupils who find it boring are often ones who find everything boring, I've seen plenty of those!

We aren't a church school...and religion doesn't have a terribly high priority in our school. We do assemblies, but they are far less 'Christian' than they used to be at the church school I used to teach at. (No praying at the end, no reflection, no hymns, no lighting of candles, prayer boxes or crucifixes in classrooms or anything like that.) Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I grew up in a country (and went through a school system) that separates church and state.
Whether RE is of any 'value' depends very much on how it's taught and what is taught. if there's a good mix, I don't see the issue. I do get why they might find it boring, though. The understanding of the historical importance and the link to more current issues, tends not to be quite straightforward for most 9- or 10-year-olds. It takes a while to develop that understanding.
