Coasting schools to be taken over by super heads

Where on earth are all these super heads coming from?! Our lea can't recruit normal heads! Or will they just throw stupid money at them? That'll go down well in schools that can't afford pencils!

I suppose by 'coasting' they actually mean Good, as well??? As they can already turn failing schools into academies. You're only safe (for now) if you're Outstanding; I bet no non-academies will be getting outstanding...

Unbelievable! We have just had ofsted. We were good last time; we are good this time. I assure you, we have not been coasting.

According to the BBC article they have not decided what defines a coasting school but they have worked out what they are going to do about a problem they have yet to define. Continued illogical madness, it is no different under Morgan than Gove.

Fascinated to see how this will pan out once the new gcses and a levels kick in. Designed to be more rigorous - ie harder, so results will FALL. Will all secondary schools be failing/coasting then? First results in 2 years.

I think this ^ along with the removal of levels means they are moving towards assessing schools on achievement(results) rather than progress. This will make is a more uneven playing field for schools in areas where children enter the school with less skills.

This is just a way to make everyone an academy. Then they are directly under the control of the government-with no pesky LEA to get in the way. Teachers' pay and conditions can be overhauled completely-1265 hours and 195 days removed and we'll all be teaching 8-6, 46 weeks of the year. Childcare crisis sorted.

No, not paranoid. Just a good understanding of Conservative need to control every aspect of 'education' in this country. Teaching professionals tightly controlled, independent thought and action prohibited, next generation of automatons - or do I mean Conservative voters - guaranteed!

According to the Guardian, "The new powers are more likely to apply to those facing issues such as a significant drop in results or failure to meet government benchmarks."

So I doubt it will apply to schools with a current status of "good".

Given that government benchmarks change all the time and often apply retrospectively, there's absolutely no assurance that this wouldn't affect any schools currently rated Good.

Except that there's got to be a limit to the number of schools they can find the resources to manage like this. As someone else pointed out, where would they find all the head-teachers?

Coasting schools get average results apparently, and we all know all schools should be above average....Never let statistical facts get in the way of a good school bashing eh?!
