NC Level Replacements

What are you doing in your schools to replace the old levels & APP assessments?
Has anyone got anything worked out? We just get told that everyone's waiting for the new government to make a decision!

We're on our second version of something we've put together ourselves. The first attempt was ridiculously time consuming and pointless. The new version looks like it might work but only time will tell!

We use Target Tracker. It has moved everything from 3 sub levels per level, to 6. It's a bloody nightmare.

Soz8 · 14/05/2015 23:15

We're using Rising Stars for reading, grammar, punctuation and maths. It's working well so far Smile

SunsetDreamer · 15/05/2015 00:01

Still using APP. In full force Hmm

FrancesNiadova · 15/05/2015 06:27

Thanks

We also are still going to use APP but report on the number of points instead of the level.

We're moving to the 1-9 system in Sept from Y7 to Y11.

Each unit will be based on GCSE skills and papers, while also meeting all the NC. Obviously the Y7 assessments will be simpler / more scaffolded than the final papers - getting progressively harder each year.

We are using STAT Sheffield.

pea84 · 16/05/2015 07:48

What is STAT Sheffield like? We've just signed up for it for September.

noblegiraffe · 16/05/2015 10:18

Duchess how on earth are you doing that for all subjects from September? They haven't even agreed how maths is going to be assessed yet and that's first teaching in September so I imagine there's bog all info on the new GCSEs for the other subjects.

Mostlyjustaluker · 16/05/2015 11:34

In our subject, RE we will have new GCSE coming out next year so we are keeping levels for now and waiting to see what the new GCSE will be like.

suze28 · 16/05/2015 11:57

We're using a system called Symphony which is a primary schools partnership based in Leicestershire, I think.

FrancesNiadova · 16/05/2015 14:47

Yes, I've seen some of the Sheffield materials, they are very detailed.

Noble We're using the Maths and English 2, 5 and 8 anchor points as a basis for assessment criteria (and filling in the gaps ourselves until definitive guidelines are out). All subjects in our school have now done this on one of our INSET days.

For the Assessment tasks, all subjects should have years 7-9 in place by the summer using NC and any new GCSE advice that has been issued. Maths and English are doing Y10 too (I'm HoD for English, so have been doing the bulk of this since January - very grateful for my Y13 & Y11 gained time now!).

temporarilyjerry · 17/05/2015 11:54

STAT Sheffield has a grid for each year group in reading, writing, maths and SPAG. Children are assessed as entering, progressing or embedded against statements which have been lifted from the National Curriculum. It is quite a simple system. Wish I'd thought of it first. Grin
