How many contact hours do you have?

Including registration, assembly etc, how many hours a week are you with the children?

It's probably different between different types of school, so maybe add this info.

I am with kids for 28 hours a week. Independent senior school. This seems like an awful lot to me.

...but don't Independent schools generally have longer days, to compensate for the fact they have considerably more holiday than state schools? - You'd expect it to be higher.

I'm not in school any longer, but, in my last job it was 5 hours 40 per day (so 28hrs 20 per week, less PPA time of about 2.5hr - 3 hrs depending if you got it in the morning or afternoon). Primary. Mainstream. State.

Yes, you would expect it to be higher. I wondering if it is, and by how much. My last state job was less but I can't remember how much.

FE 24hrs

I work 3 days a week and am with the children 17 hours per week, including teaching, extra curricular and duties. When I was full time in an a Independent secondary school working over 6 days (Saturday morning school) I probably only did 26 hours a week (18 hours teaching then 8 hours duties/extra curricular) my current job is very intense indeed.

I work as a supply teacher, so although I work every day, and most periods, I only have 25 hours a week which is all contact (when I do have free periods I usually offer to go and help out in other subjects as can learn a lot myself from them). Secondary, so marking, prep, meetings or duties, so can leave as soon as the bell goes.

Our FT staff are 8.45 - 3.15 each day, minus one hour for lunch (if they are not team leaders who are expected to do one or two lunch duties a week or running a lunchtime club) so 27.5 hours, then at least one after school club a week at an hour. But 2.5 hours a week PPA.
Making 25.5 hours minimum, but more likely 26.5 hours. That is a state primary school.

0830 - 1530 x 5
Less :
30mins x 5 lunch
20mins x 4 break (provided its bit raining if it is no break :)
2.25 hr ppa.

So just under 27hrs. Seems a lot now I write it down.

State secondary and I'm with the pupils 23 hours a week. That's 21 hours of lessons and 2 hours of registration per week. Oh and I do bus duty once a week so another 20 mins approx (can be longer depending on how late the last bus is)
