The soul-destroying, time-consuming, confidence-crushing process of applying for teaching jobs

I've only done one application so far this year - got to interview but didn't get it. I'm on a temporary contract so need something for September.

One school to visit this week and will apply for that (closing date not until May). It's a job I would really want. I hope I don't have to apply for things I don't really want. I find the whole process so exhausting and don't feel like jumping through a million hoops right now.

Just a self-pitying rant I suppose! A change is a good thing and there are many, many downsides to my current job!

I totally feel your pain! The applications are the biggest faff ever. I feel sorry for my beautifully crafted CV I spent hours on sitting on my hard drive with no one to admire it!

DH is also applying for jobs right now. He's an engineer and after a little bit of set up on a couple of job sites he clicks "apply now" and is done. He's averaging about 10 applications a day. There are times when I hate him a little!

It's reassuring to know you feel the same. Then there's the interview preparation, model lesson, whatever crazy group humiliation exercise has been thought up by the panel. My current school is evil for interviews and only makes temporary appointments, so people have to reapply for their jobs all the time. I'm not playing. Would rather apply elsewhere.

I'm off the idea altogether! However, our plans for a new house don't allow for me to jack in work, sadly!

I'm after an NQT post for September, and my last 3 obs were rated outstanding. People have checked my applications and there aren't any glaring errors. Not even an interview after 10+ applications. Soul destroying.

There mustn't be a teacher crisis in the midlands!

Come to Bucks - over a hundred teaching jobs available (and have been for weeks - not the same ones as there's quite a turnover of jobs advertised).

The class I left at Easter has a supply teacher as they couldn't get anyone permanent. It took 7 agencies to find someone to take the job (genuinely lovely class in a lovely school) and it only got sorted the day before we broke up. The person doing the job has time keeping problems and in 1 1/2 weeks has only made it in before the children once. The Head has told my old TA that nothing can be done about it (beyond asking her nicely to get in on time) because there isn't anyone else out there to do it.

oh, off the idea as in staying put, not as in not working at all! frying pan, fire and all that ....

Egnog don't despair, it will pick up after end May when teachers in post will have to stay put.... I got my NQT job in July! and very relieved I was, too

I think it depends on your subject and how in vogue it is right now for how many jobs there are.

Primary in East Midlands-we are lucky to get 2-3 applicants per job!

We can't move from here now - DH has finally got the permanent job (not a teacher) that we've been moving around for for the last 15 years.

Thank you... I'm just telling myself that my perfect post just hasn't been advertised yet!

I only have a temporary contract so am hoping to strike it lucky after May half term - if anything is advertised then at all!
