Short interview lesson - what's expected?

Hello, hope everyone's enjoying the brief respite from toil

I have an interview in a few weeks, a 15- to-20-minute session in Year 5.

I've never done an interview lesson that short before and am unsure about how much progress, work produced, etc they expect to see?

My interview lessons in the past have been around the 30-40 minute mark so I just want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction.

I think I'm planning at the moment to have them write a sentence each...
My ideas change every 5 seconds though!

If anyone's got experience of delivering a session that short I'd love to hear how it went/any advice!

Does it have to be English? Because if not, I think I'd view it as an extended MO starter and do a Maths lesson. When I went for my NQT job I did Maths bingo - it worked very well. Can't remember how long I had, but it was with a group of about 8.

I think they're looking for the relationship you establish with the children - can you get some kind of excitement going in the time?

Maths would be much easier for the time frame but it has to be spelling/punctuation/grammar and with a full class, hence why I'm struggling a little to come up with a game-style activity...

So you don't think they will be expecting to see written work? If not then I have a lot more things that I could potentially do.

I wouldn't try for written work except for whiteboards. Possibly get them to write something very short on a post it for a plenary that you can use to assess their learning.
