How to improve my handwriting...

I am a recently appointed reception yr 1&2 teacher. (NQT)
the handwriting and literacy lessons and constantly based on the class teacher writing in these large flip chart pieces of paper even the planning is hand written.
My handwriting is fine, even pleasant. But I need to adopt the schools nelson handwriting scheme way of writing and joining so I'm modelling properly.
Has anyone else had to work hard to change their handwriting style?
When I try to write on the White board etc it looks rubbish and I'm really paranoid that its making me look stupid.
Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

I felt like you as an NQT, everyone else had 'teacher writing' and I felt mine wasn't up to standard. It comes with practice. I didn't join up my own handwriting when I started teaching so it took a lot of thought. One thing I did do was write slowly when writing on the board, you are modelling writing so take your time. I'm fine on whiteboards/ flip charts now but I've never been able to master really neat writing on the IWB!

We switched to cursive writing in September and I practised every night.
I love handwriting and am complimented on mine a lot.

Practise. Tis the only way. SmileSmile

It's just practise. I've had to change my style for every school I've worked in - I think of it as an art and quite enjoy it.

I teach secondary maths, my pupils constantly laugh at my board writing.

Tbh I have made no attempt to change it in years, so I really do admire teachers who can make that effort.

(As an aside; I normally come back to school after the summer break to find that my board writing style bears no relationship to the alphabet I normally use, but could possibly be recognized as hieroglyphics)
