Leaving at May half term

Looking for some advice on leaving at May half term. In my ignorance I assumed I could give half a terms notice and all would be fine, but of course I have now realised that there are only three official leaving points in the year.

I have e-mailed my Head who gave me a very vague response saying he would have to discuss it with my HOD plus two members of LG.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Are you in an academy? My academy contract is 2 calendar months notice, not the 'burgundy book' terms and conditions. Check your contract.

I am in an Academy. The Head of HR emailed me to say there are just the three points in the year though.

Need to check the contract again in detail though.

Am hoping they will let me go as all my exam classes will have gone and there will be plenty of people in the department who could cover my lessons (as I have done when colleagues have left at May half term before). Hopefully as they have allowed it previously then I should be OK.

In our school the contracts are different for people who were there before the academy status was granted. Maybe that applies to you?

I was given a new one when I came back from maternity leave so it will be a new Academy one. I can't find a copy at home so will have to look at it when I go back next week.

Another question - are performance reviews a contractual requirement? I havn't had one for three years so am wondering if I can have that up my sleeve in case they are awkward about me going? Don't want it to get messy but I do really want to leave!!

Why are you desperate to go at May half term? If you have exam classes that are leaving then the summer term is much easier and the big incentive is that you will get paid till the end of the summer, so an extra 6 weeks wages.

7 weeks this year!

I potentially have a new job to go to which is not in a school. Otherwise, totally agree, summer term is lovely with regards to work load.
