Personal Statement

I'm really struggling with this. It's been years since I've written one. Should you just address the points in the job description? I'm finding that a nightmare as it doesn't all fit neatly into paragraphs.

Should there be a heading for each paragraph? How should you begin the statement? Everytime I start, it just sounds cheesy and ridiculous. I've been teaching for years by the way but don't have a clue!

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Theo Griff on the TES site has a lot of useful advice: www.tes.co.uk/article.aspx?storycode=6008055

Fantastic! Thank you. Plus he's put an example of an opening paragraph.

Do use the executive summary to address the person specification part. I did this last year and it worked a treat for summarising my strengths... got the job (otherwise I would have been joining the 'How to injure yourself thread')

Good luck.

Thanks breward. Too late now but I'll definitely do it next time.

Just praying my statement gets me an interview. Which will be vomit inducingly terrifying after all these years!
