Break in service

I resigned at half term with no job to go to. I'm hopeful however, that I will start a new job in May so my break in service will only be about four weeks. I suspect it will still count as a break though. Can anyone fill me in on the impact of this? Thanks

The only thing I know is what I was told 3 years ago when I left a permanent job for a maternity cover. There was due to be a 2 week break between the end of the Easter holidays and the start of the maternity cover (which I was quite looking forward to :) ). I had started teaching under, previous, more generous pension arrangements (ie 10 years ago). My bursar realised that with the 2 week break in service I'd have to leave and re-enter the teachers' pension scheme and then be on the revised terms - later retirement date etc. So she negotiated with the bursar of the new school that I'd do 2 days a week for the first 2 weeks of term so I kept continuous service. Don't know if any of that applies to you....
