1 x full time teacher. (2 hrs ppa)
2 x 0.4 teacher.(1 hr ppa each)
3 weekly plans to produce for two classes to be done for two classes. How would you divide? ( the fifth day is taught by a member of SLT who does PE and ICT which is done in full time teachers class in ppa and planned for by DHT). Currently full time teacher is doing most of it ( sorry let's be honest all of it and thinks enough is enough) and was just wondering what people's thoughts were. Many thanks

No wonder full time is fed up!

Full timer does half
Dep head does about .1 by the sounds of it.
Part times split remaining . 4 between them.

Each choose fave subject, pick rest from hat if can't agree or no obvious strengths. Give lit and num extra weighting.

How many contact hours are you planning for? You need to split by subject or ratio of time.

At the moment I am doing 5 literacy plans with all resources 4 way differentiation same for numeracy. Then I do thematic which is 5 sessions, minimum. Phonics is done for us as we follow a scheme which is done daily. I have noticed the in between things like SPAG, handwriting, mental maths etc tend to be either a couple of days behind in the other class as if these are on the plans in a skeleton form if I put on the school system they are used. My attitude has always been I have to do for my class ad I am responsible for them end of BUT I am starting to think I have 'mug' on my forehead.

What are the 0.4 teachers planning? Nothing? How long have you all been in this year group? What were these teachers like for pulling their weight in previous years? How senior are you/they? Is the line manager supportive?

iloveanklebiters · 22/02/2015 10:11

The 0.4 teachers are truthfully not planning as the planning fairy is putting it on for them. When it's not on there because I have a couple of times not put it on the system they asked where it is. I am newest to year group but have been in school longest and in years at school taught in year group for the longest but this year so different in terms of curriculum so even if I looks old stuff I do from from scratch anyway. When I spoke to DHT about it ( she does the PPA remember) the impression the advice I got was ' dont put it on the system' which resulted in ' where is it' and ' not everyone has your fantastic work ethic'. Suppose I will just plod on.

No way plod on! Don't put it on the system. Have a year group/ key stage meeting to discuss and sORT. Woman up!

The planning fairy needs to take a trip to wonderland and let the part time teachers do some planning work all on their own. They both need to plan their proportion of lessons. So count up the total hours, and split by the hours each teacher is doing.

So, full time teacher teachers for example 30 hours, and 0.4 teachers teach 12 each - total = 54. Each of the 0.4 teachers need to plan 22% of the total hours sessions.

toomuchicecream · 22/02/2015 13:30

So don't put it on the system and then when they ask for it, tell them the planning fairy is fed up with doing all the work for them. Ask which part of the job they are going to do so they have something to exchange with you. When they've committed to what they are going to do, then you can put yours up. But only put it up once they've put their part up.

toomuchicecream · 22/02/2015 13:32

And go back to the DH - tell them that you're following their advice and not putting the planning up. That way your back is covered. When your colleagues get huffy with you (after all, you've unilaterally changed the rules on them) be ready to suggest a meeting to decide a fairer way forward. If they aren't prepared to meet to agree what is fair, then don't share your planning with them.

Actually - ask the DH to be at that meeting and to chair it - that should stop it from getting too personal. Ideally, have a chat with the DH before hand to agree the outcome you want from the meeting.

Do they 0.4 people know they are being useless? Can they be shamed into pulling their weight if you sat them down and said you aren't happy with the current arrangement? Are they friends?

I can't believe their PMR will go well if they can't even justify doing the basics of the job!!

iloveanklebiters · 22/02/2015 20:48

Thanks for the advice. I think this worm will turn. Wish me luckGrin

The key issue is how planning demands have got waaaaay out of hand. I used to be a better teacher before the planning expectations went crazy.

AS a profession, we need to stand up and rise against the tyranny.

iloveanklebiters · 23/02/2015 16:18

Update. Spoke to DH who said that she was fully aware and was surprised it took this long for the planning fairy to stamp her feet. Said that she would fully support the fact that because I have done it all since September that in her professional opinion perhaps one would like to do literacy, one would like to do numeracy and I can do the topic planning. She whilst I was there sent an email out to this effect. Winked at me and said ' looking forward to their responses'. Blush

Well done!! Keep us updated!

Tanaqui · 02/03/2015 14:21

How's it going op?

iloveanklebiters · 02/03/2015 15:24

The 'planning' has been put on the system and a planning scrutiny has been rescheduled. School policy us that it has to be on there by Friday lunch time and it has been late but has been on. Gone down like a lead balloon but the planning fairy still has to do so much tweeking. Time wise I still prearranged stuff as back up as putting on the system 5 mins before the children is in my opinion to late. But this is not un noticed hence why planning scrutiny has been rescheduled.
