Pro rata salary..please can somebody explain how it works?

If a school support role is advertised for part time 28.75 hours per week at £14k pro rata...how can I work out what the actual salary is? Is the £14k based on 38 hours a week and 52 weeks a year??

£14k will be based on probably a 35 hour week and 48 weeks a year. Assuming term time only you'd work 38 weeks so about 80% of a year. Additionally you're working about 80% of a week, so overall i reckon it'd be about 60% of £14k so about £8k a year.

However you could just phone them and ask!

Does it not mean the £14k is pro-rata-ed so it will myess than this?

Yes it says term time only 28.75 hours a week. It's a learning support assistant role

LSA salary is often around £9-10k depending on the area.
Or that has always been my experience anyway.

Is an lsa generally considered to be a lower scale pay wise than a teaching assistant?

Yes it is usually a slightly lower salary for an LSA than a TA and the job description is usually slightly different as well. But again this does vary from school to school.

The terms LSA and TA have always been interchangeable in the schools I've worked in.

My TA takes home about £600 a month if that's at all helpful.
