HLTA training - advice needed please!

Hi - I've been a TA in a large comprehensive high school for about a year now, and I'm considering going for HLTA status. What I'm trying to find out is (1) how easy/time-consuming is it? (2) How do I go about getting the relevant experience etc. so that I can provide evidence etc and finally (3) is it worth it (slightly increased pay aside)? I have 2 young children so free time at home is limited! Any comments/advice gratefully received, thanks.

Hi, I'm going through this now.

I've a lot of experience already (7 years) so it's just finding the time to write it all up, and ensuring I meet all the 33 standards. Some providers might say that one year is not enough experience. You don't get any further training on your course - to be accepted you are expected to already have all the knowledge you need.

I was given a pay rise by my employer while I train and will get another when I qualify. I'm very lucky in this respect.

Some things to consider:Will you self-fund for the course? Are HLTA roles common where you live? You also have to have a specialism (with specific training) do you have one?

I believe that you would have to assigned small group work by your school. Many hlta I know in high school are only paid hlta work for % of time when when they teach classes or do group work.
