Hi, have any of your schools listed which colour bookband would be the 'expected' for yeargroups' standards for the 2014 curriculum? E.g. would you expect your Year 1s to be on green, orange, turquoise at the end of the year, or would green be 'below' standard.... etc!
My Head wants me to make a list like this, but I don't know whether I need to up the expectations from previous levelling system or just change the wording.
Thanks!

Yes-we've got one. Orange is where my head decrees Y1s should be by the end of the year.

Thank you! Could you tell me, is it red for reception and purple for year 2?

my dd was on gold books at the end of fs (last year) and was given expected as reading outcome for eyfs profile!

added message too soon...so I think there are huge variations in reading book level expectations.

Schools have all different kinds of criteria for moving children through book bands. It can even vary between different teachers in the same school. In reception dd was not allowed to move above green band because she was not using the correct phonemes in her writing. Ie. Spelling cake as Caik because she hadn't yet been taught split diagraphs. Yet in year 1 she has been allowed to move up reading bands more rapidly.

Assessments for eyfs profiles are a law unto themselves. Dd reading was exceeding expectations although she was only on green level. The school is in a category so I assume that lea advisors have moderated judgements.

Wow- gold is an old level 2 (Year 2 expected) - that's amazing for Reception!

I have no faith in any of the eyfs judgements despite her school telling me they too had been moderated by the LA. The onky reason they could give for not exceeding was she didn't choose to read non fiction books at school (compared to her very extensive range of books at home the school selection is dull and outdated). I am not in the least concerned about the level she is on as reads anything she picks up now but I was just surprised to read a school would say orange for end of year one and red for EYFS. I know each school is very different so no point in comparisons really I guess. Smile
