I work in a challenging secondary school, kids basically do what they want, SLT totally ineffective - they put all the blame on middle leaders when really we all want is for them to acknowledge that they are fighting a losing battle and that something major has to happen to turn this on its head.Everyone is too scared to speak up (people who have in the past find themselves suspiciously out of a job eventually!)

I work with some great staff who are just battling day in, day out with problems that they shouldn't need to. I don't want to start looking for other jobs but I'm probably gpoing to have to because I am sick of feeling like i'm working for a sinking ship.

anyone else been in a similar situation? what did it take for your school to come out of the other side??

I think you need to have a look at the local authority whistle blowing policy and arrange to speak to someone outside the school.

I worked in a similar school and only lasted 2 years before I handed in my notice with no job to go on to. I wish I had used the whistleblowing policy.

It took a new head with a totally new outlook to change our school from one ruled by pupils to one where learning is respected and pupils want and expect to learn. And in only one year....if I hadn't been part of it I wouldn't believe it.

wow! What triggered the change in head? special measures?

Why are you wasting your life in such a situation. I did for years, can't understand why now. Just go, there are other schools, and other jobs besides teaching.
