Getting back into teaching

Currently on mat leave from a different job - I taught for four years and changed careers in 2013 (still education-related and working with young people). I'd have to go back full time which I really don't want to do, mostly because I'd miss my child but also it doesn't make financial sense. I'd like to teach part time (secondary) - I miss it! And I'd get paid more...

Is it worth doing supply? How much work would I be likely to get - is there an 'average'? Or should I go back to my current job until (if?) a suitable part time permanent vacancy comes up?

Probably depends where you are geographically, and what your subject is.

I taught English in London and did a 6 month stint of supply a few years back and was never a day without work.

I found doing supply didn't work for me. As I would get a phone call the day before and couldn't get childcare sorted. (I have 2 dc and no close family)

I have just gone back (20 month break) after 5 months of applying and 6 failed interviews. But I got there and am enjoying my 3 days a week
