Two week timetable - implications for PT staff?

I am a PT Head of Dept at a small senior school. I also teach PE 2 afternoons a week at a local prep school. My main employer (50%) is changing to a 2 week timetable from sept. How can they accommodate me in the same days each week? Is it possible? I only teach 6th form is that makes any difference at all. Feeling a bit unsure, want to keep doing both jobs

Not sure of the answer but I teach same two days a wk in a secondary that had 2wk timetable so it can be done

We have just had a staff meeting to explain the new changes and have been told there are no guarantees so it's good to hear it is possible :-)

It's not reasonable IMO for a school to "block" you from taking another PT job by expecting you to be available 100% of the time for irregular 50% hours.

I worked in a school on a two week timetable, there were lots of pt staff on regular days (i.e. mon, wed, thurs) so it can def be done. Hope you get it sorted OP.

Bonsoir - I had the other job first and explained at interview my circumstances. I appreciate that the whole thing can't be structured around the part-timers but wondered whether anyone had encountered it working, so am pleased to hear that sometimes it can

I don't agree that it cannot be structured around PT workers. You have every right to be available to work elsewhere.

My school says that the timetable will be written for the benefit of the pupils not part time staff. I'm contracted to work 3 days but I work a patchy timetable 5 days a week with different times each week on a two week timetable. Luckily I have a very flexible childminder.

Someone posted on the staffroom that part time workers will no longer be allowed to teach exam classes so as not to split them so part time workers can keep full days off.

So schools absolutely can piss you about if they can justify it in terms of the students' needs.

I work 0.66 on a 2 week timetable - same days each week.
I've done similar for the last 2 years (one year I did an additional afternoon one week, whole day off the other).
Our timetable does the part-timers first, and we fill in a form giving our constraints before the process starts each year.
I teach Yr 10-13 in a 4 form entry secondary school if that makes any difference.
If they want to accommodate you it is certainly possible.

Our school has a 2 week timetable and for those part timers who really mind which days they have off they sort it, eg colleague A has three days off a fortnight, including every Tuesday, and every other Friday. colleague B has every Friday off, Colleague C every Friday and Monday. They all teach GCSE and A level classes, and whilst I know time tabling is a headache for the member of SLT that does it I do not think they find it any harder than my previous school which couldn't even let part timers know which day they were getting off the next year until the last week of the summer term!

I am on a .8 and get the same half days despite the two week timetable. I am very nice to the time tabling person .

Seriously, get the timetabling person flowers. It must be an awful job.
