just looking at one job in selective prep, oversubscribed. but it requires a move as 1.5 h drive. i have one child yr 2, would school have a soecial regard for staff children? i asked school and they said selective entry and at the moment no places... does it mean no hope for a place? thanks

Sounds like there is not a space available. I would say that if it is selective school, your child would have to do the entry assessment regardless of whether you were a member of staff or not. Also, if they have a class size limit, and are full, then they would not make an exception.

When you asked the question, did you make it clear you would be looking for a place for your child with you as a member of staff, or did you just phone as a prospective parent?

The only answer that really matters is the one the school gave you, not any conjecture mumsnetters may make. Prep schools are all different and have different rules/guidelines on admissions.

You already asked the school and they said no? I think that's your answer. If a place came available - as might happen occasionally especially as someone might trade up or down according to their circumstances at the start of year 3 as that's the traditional transition year from infants to juniors - there would be selective competition from all interested applicants. If your child was awarded a place you would usually get a fee discount as a staff member.
