£80 for 8 lessons supply?

I'm point 4 on the main scale and covered 8 lessons for a colleague. The school paid me £80 - seems awfully low?

I assume Secondary?

I got £110 for a full day, Primary. And that's in relatively cheap area of UK. Pay scale not taken into account with this agency - all on a set rate.

How much does 8 lessons equate to in am/pm sessions or full days?

It does seem very low.

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 12:39

It's six lessons per day in this school. The lessons were spread over four days though. One day I was there from 9.30 till 3.30 because of the way the lessons fell - obviously no pay for the gaps in the day!

Yes secondary btw

I would certainly check that. Your rate should be much better, and if they say its not, then register with a diffent agency (or directly with schools/academies)

padkin · 28/12/2014 12:47

Well that's definitely too low then. How annoying.

Are you being paid directly by the school/LEA or through an agency? Whichever, you need to contact them and query. What were you told about pay before hand?

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 12:54

This was from the school I already work part time at

On the day with the gaps I wouldn't normally have been in school

Gosh, that's low! Go and see hr / finance in the new year.

auntpetunia · 28/12/2014 13:07

Sounds to me like you've not been paid at your grade but at a generic daily rate. Did you fill in an overtime extra hours form or your admin/finance officer to put through to hr?

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 13:20

No form that I'm aware of

Sounds to me then that you've been paid either ta rate or basic pay scale. Any of our Teachers who do extra fill an overtime form in which gets signed by ht and paygrade agreed so that admin can put it through to hr/payroll.

Mynewnamenotyours · 28/12/2014 14:21

I assume that was after tax and nic?

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 14:30

Yes take home

OP posts:
Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 14:31

But I earn so little that I fall below the tax threshold

OP posts:
RinkyDinkyDoo · 28/12/2014 16:26

Have you been paid extra hours rate, rather than supply rate? That rate is much lower.

Jaffacakesareyummy · 28/12/2014 16:27

Trapped time should be paid for as well

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 16:49

Where can I find out about extra hours' rate? And why would that be so much lower? All in all I spent an extra 12 hours in school, plus commuting time... Could have earnt more working in Tesco Shock

Jaffacakesareyummy · 28/12/2014 16:50

Ask your union??

Notsuretoday · 28/12/2014 20:13

Good idea Smile
