Job application

I have found a job in a SEND school, completed the forms and am ready to post. Two things are stopping me - the start date is January and I couldn't start until Easter and they want references prior to interview.

Should I ring and ask these questions? Don't want current job to know I am applying elsewhere, am I being silly?

Nowadays we have to take up references before interview in order to comply with Safer Recruitment guidelines. Most HTs are relatively circumspect about staff applying for other jobs so just let them know
If you're the right candidate, they won't mind waiting until Easter.
