Would you work at your childrens school?

My teacher friend has just been offered a good position at her children's school, easy hours, good pay, good kids. Not to mention she will never miss out on seeing her kids assemblies etc.

However, as a parent, she's not completely happy with the school, just little stuff like lack of communication, late notice, too much homework etc. it got me thinking if it's a good idea for her to work there. Would you / have you worked at your children's school?

I did it. But I am KS2, they are KS1. Left the school now it has become an academy, i'll be taking them out soon too. If nothing else it gave me a great insight as to why both of them were miserable!

Practically, I never had any trouble, I wasn't ever in contact with them, not even in the same playground. Teachers are professionals, and if anything needed to be discussed it was done so within professional parameters. I basically left my kids teachers to get on with it, and they left me to.

One problem was that although I did see the assemblies, every single parents evening had to be rearranged as I was working too.

Kids never experienced any bullying, favouratism or anything. A bit of playground behaviour from other mums, but that soon subsided. If I could get the kids into the lovely school i'm in now, i'd have no hesitation about doing it again. It's really not an issue unless you make it one, and it's very common where I live, in the sticks, rurally.

I think the homework issue is real, but then, as a teacher she probably knows that the teachers there have no choice. It's becoming an issue throughout primary due to the goalposts being moved and all of a sudden every child being expected to do it all by year 4.

I work at my children's school and also have taught my own children. In some ways it is lovely as I get to see more of them and drop offs are easy! However sometimes I wish I didn't work there. It can be lonely at times as you don't fully belong in either the teachers or the parents camp so both sets can be a little wary of you.
Another thing is I don't get to see the magic as know what it really like behind the scenes eg teachers frantically paddling behind the surface like swans.
Other parents can be quite jealous and think teachers children are getting special treatment when in fact the opposite is true. They tend to get treated more harshly than other children. Well that is the case in schools I have worked in where there are staff children. If there is a problem it is much harder to say anything as it can reflect on your child.

The children do get away wit far less but it is no bad thing. It allowed me to see more of my children, I loved it.
